Method#
How the site builds the ratios and the peer ranges.
- Lenses. Statement formats differ, so each filer sits in one lens, with its own ratios. Operating companies have ratios for working capital, indebtedness, coverage, profitability, liquidity and cash flow. Holdings and investment trusts have the same ratios without working-capital days. Working-capital days mix unrelated businesses in a consolidated statement. Banks have quarterly KAP scale and returns, with the TBB year-end capital, asset-quality and funding ratios. Leasing, factoring, consumer-finance and asset-management companies form one lens. Insurers, brokers and portfolio managers form another. Sukuk SPVs (varlık kiralama) and investment funds are left out. The borrower of an SPV is its fund user, and a fund is not a company.
- Construction. The site keeps one filing for each company and period, consolidated where published. Balances are at the period end. Flows are the year-to-date figures of the filing, annualized by the days of the period when set against a balance. Under IAS 29, each statement is in the lira of its own period end. The site combines figures from different filings only after it restates them to the same period end (see Bases).
- Peers. Medians and ranges are across the companies in the same lens, sector or industry and period. A range runs from Q1 to Q3. It needs 5 companies. A median needs 3. The dot of a company sits on the range of its industry. It turns red when it is outside the range on the weaker side.
- Bases. The site reads flows on three bases: the last twelve months, the latest quarter, or the year to date as filed. The last twelve months is the default, because it has no seasonality. Under IAS 29, each filing is in the lira of its own period end. The site restates figures from different filings to the same period end with TÜİK CPI. IAS 29 applies the same factor to comparatives. Where a filing carries a prior-year or three-month column that the company restated itself, the site uses that figure as published. The last twelve months equal the year to date, plus the last full year restated, less the same span a year earlier. The quarter is the three-month column of the company. Else it is the year to date less the previous filing restated. Banks, BDDK-regulated filers and companies with a foreign functional currency (airlines, some contractors) do not restate. Their own comparatives show it. The site combines their figures as filed. Each build runs a check. It restates an earlier filing of a company with TÜİK CPI and compares the result with the prior-year figure that the company restated itself. The two agree within 0.5% in 83% of 9,415 comparisons, with a median difference of 0.00%. The rest are the restatements and reclassifications of the companies themselves.
- Changes. A change compares a company with its own filing for the same period a year earlier, for example June with June. Both cover the same months. Ratios compare directly, in days, percentage points or times. Amounts compare only after the site deflates them with TÜİK CPI. The result is real growth. IAS 29 restates each filing to its own period-end purchasing power. Balance-sheet ratios also compare with the previous filing. Flow ratios do not, because consecutive filings cover different numbers of months.
- What changed. Each company page lists generated observations. Some are moves over 1 year that stand out from the move of the industry. The thresholds are 30 days, 5 percentage points or a set number of times. The others are operating profit below interest, negative equity, short-term debt with thin cash cover, real revenue declines and repeated negative operating cash flow.
- Periods. Filings are year to date. March covers three months, June six, September nine and December the year. A period becomes the default once 60% of the usual filers of the lens have reported it.
- Classification. Sectors and industries come from the sector directory of KAP for listed companies. The site places unlisted filers by name and marks them as such. Sectors use NACE Rev. 2.1 letters.
